Avid Reader is West End's independent bookshop and courtyard cafe on Boundary Street, run by Fiona Stager and Kevin Guy since 1997 and known for its book launches, book clubs and expertly curated shelves.
About Avid Reader
Avid Reader has anchored Boundary Street since 1997, when Fiona Stager and Kevin Guy opened it inspired by Sydney’s Gleebooks and its focus on literary events. It was named Australian Bookshop of the Year at the 2020 ABIAs, and Fiona received an OAM in 2023 for her services to literature.
The shop pairs an expertly curated collection with a leafy courtyard cafe, and its staff of authors, artists and musicians are known for personal recommendations. Evenings bring a busy calendar of book launches, book-club meet-ups and exhibitions. Next door, the same owners run Where the Wild Things Are, their children’s bookshop.
